3. Information Collection, Use, Sharing and Disclosure General Collection and Use:
SDI collects PII when you: (1) register for services with SDI; (2) use any SDI products or services; (3) visit the SDI web site, or the web sites or web pages of certain SDI contractors and suppliers; and (4) communicate directly with SDI, including e-mails and telephone calls received by us. SDI may choose to combine your PII with information SDI obtains from its business partners or other affiliated companies for internal SDI surveying or marketing purposes.
When you use the ACCESS REQUEST page on this Web Site to register with SDI you will be asked for information such as name, address, telephone number, zip code, and for certain business organization information. Once you submit this information to SDI, you will not be anonymous to SDI.
SDI collects PII and other information about User transactions with SDI and with certain affiliated business partners, agents, contractors and suppliers who assist in providing support for SDI operations, products and services.
SDI automatically receives and records information on SDI web server logs from User web browsers, including User IP addresses, User cookie information and the particular web pages on the SDI Web Site that a User requests. SDI never tries to track your activities when you are not on the SDI Web Site.
SDI uses User PII and other User information collected for the following purposes: (1) to verify the identity of individual SDI Users; (2) to fulfill User requests for SDI, Information, products and services; (3) to enforce transactions with Users; (4) to improve SDI services, including the content, customization and/ or layout of the SDI web site; (5) to contact SDI Users for notification of updates to the SDI web site and to conduct SDI marketing activities; (6) to conduct User surveys and related research.
SDI may, from time to time, provide anonymous reporting of aggregate data to affiliated parties and to unaffiliated external clients; however, such reporting will be done on an anonymous basis using aggregated data that is not displayed in such a manner that it constitutes PII for individual SDI Users.
SDI Web Site Cookies:
Although SDI currently utilizes cookies only, SDI reserves the right to use other methods of online User session tracking, including but not limited to such technologies as web beacons, any time in the future.
Confidentiality and Security:
SDI has internal policies and procedures designed to keep User PII safe. These include:
(a) Allowing access to User PII only to authorized employees, agents, contractors or suppliers who need that information to perform specific job responsibilities;
(b) Maintaining physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard User PII, including appropriate security measures in place in SDI's physical facilities to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of collected PII, and requiring SDI subcontractors to employ the same safeguards;
(c) Training SDI employees on privacy and implementing disciplinary procedures for any employees who violate SDI procedures, and requiring that all SDI subcontractors train their employees regarding SDI privacy policies and procedures.
Your SDI User account information is password-protected.
In certain areas within the SDI web site, SDI may use industry-standard Secure Socket Layer ("SSL") technology and encryption to protect data transmissions.
Information Sharing and Disclosure:
SDI does not rent, sell, or share PII about SDI Users with unaffiliated individuals or companies except to: (1) provide SDI products and services that a User specifically requests; and (2) under the following conditions:
(a) When SDI provides PII and other information to contractors and affiliated companies who work either on behalf of or with SDI under agreements that provide for confidentiality of PII, such affiliated contractors and companies may use User PII to assist SDI in communicating with Users; however such confidentiality provisions prevent SDI-affiliated companies from sharing or selling PII to any third parties not under any contractual obligations to SDI.
(b) When SDI is responding to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal process or procedure, including the requests of governmental authorities in conjunction with an investigation;
(c) When SDI believes it is necessary to share information with third parties in order to investigate, prevent or take action regarding: (1) illegal activities; (2) suspected fraud; and (3) situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person.
(d) When SDI transfers PII to a successor entity in connection with a corporate merger, consolidation, sale of assets or other corporate change respecting the SDI web site, including a transfer due to bankruptcy and/or liquidation of assets. Upon any successor entity taking control of SDI User PII, the successor entity will notify existing SDI Users about the transfer of User PII and the terms and conditions of the successor entity's privacy policies.
4. Ability To Update User Account Information and Preferences; User Requests for Information
Users can update SDI account information, or have inaccuracies in such account information corrected, at any time by visiting the "Access Request" page.
SDI reserves the right to send Users certain communications relating to SDI products and services, such as service announcements and administrative messages, that are considered an integral part of your SDI account services, without offering you the opportunity to opt out of receiving such information.
Upon written request, SDI will provide Users with access to the following information that SDI maintains: financial information (e.g. account information); unique identifier information (e.g. User number or password); specific transaction information (e.g. dates on which a User's account activity was recorded, including the details of such account activity); communications that the User has directed to the SDI Web Site (e.g. e-mails and User inquiries); contact information (e.g. name, physical address, phone number, e-mail address); and a general description of the information SDI maintains about the User. Users can access their User information by submitting a request through the "Access Request" page on this SDI Web site.
